Slowly

Music is an amazing phenomenon. There are no rules, it just captures feelings, emotions and creates an atmosphere which is specific for each song.
“Slowly” (Despacito) is climbing up the charts anything else than slowly. The facts are absolutely stunning.
It is #1 in the Spotify “Global Top 50” playlist with 6.5 million streams per day! The next song following is 2 million streams behind – this distance is more than what other “Global Top 50” songs have as their total daily stream!
When the song “Gangam style” by Psy was released in 2012, it broke the view limit of Youtube in 2014, which was the 32 Bit integer maximum value of 2,147,483,647 views at this time. Youtube had to change their code and is now using a 64 Bit integer value.
However, since 2012 “Gangam style” now collected 2.8 billion views in a period of 5 years.
The song “Hello” by Adele was another phenomenon: released in October 2015 it now collected 1.9 billion views in a period of a little more than 1.5 years.
This is the unbelievable:
Despacito was released in January this year and has now collected 2.1 billion views is a period of only 5 months! Stunning!
It’s played everywhere, therefore here just a cover version which I like because of the female/male voice mix.

Alien

My latest new music discovery (through the Vevo channel on Instagram) is the Manchester Orchestra. Never heard of them before but the magic refrain of their song “The Alien” immediately caught my attention. The destructive video wouldn’t have been necessary but anyway, the atmosphere and sound of the song is great.

Atmospheric storm

In a beautiful drone flight video of the Youtube user Erik, I’m very excited to have discovered new wonderful atmospheric music from the band U137.

The track “Watching the storm” has already more than 14 Mio. plays on Spotify, it reminds me a lot of M83 “Un nouveau soleil”. This is the original version on Youtube…

…and on Soundcloud.

Ignition

Six years after R. Kelly has released his RnB hit “Ignition“, Phoebe Ryan has created a wonderful cover version in her own style.

Visual traffic

Germany is still proud of Lena as a winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010 with her song “Satellite”. But she has more songs, one of them is “Traffic Lights” and the video of this song totally fascinates me. It has superb visual effects in harmony with the music throughout the whole video, a great atmosphere and a wonderful dance scene at the end! Excellent work from www.the-noise.de!

Raabe family

I guess I’m getting addicted to the music of Sigrid Raabe. Another fascinating song is “Known you forever”. A Coldplay-style guitar, beautiful melody and great voice!

Sigrid seems to be from a very creative family, her brother Tellef Raabe is also making nice music. The instrumentation of “Flying on the ground” and his voice remind me very much of David Bowie.
It also sounds great if brother and sister sing together!
